Bing! missed opportunity

Bing! missed opportunity

So today I had a fresh install of Windows, with safety first. I’ll go download an antivirus program, searching for “AVG” in bing from the default IE7 homepage.

Strange result? Maybe I’ll make my search more specific: “Download AVG antivirus”

Nope still crap. So I go to google.com and search for avg

Thats it, all of the top 10 results are all perfect! So why couldn't Bing! find this?

I went back to the IE welcome page. I couldn’t believe that Bing! search was this bad.

And then I hit refresh and all was revealed.

I was searching with bing the microsoft website. I had no option to search bing OR microsoft.com and I didn’t even notice the “Search microsoft.com” text message as I was more focused searching bing!

This welcome page is useless! I'd swap it for Google after the first use. There is the opportunity to create a special landing page, or default to ninemsn again. Even if I prefer Firefox/Chrome I still need to use Internet Explorer once to download the alternatives. That a 100% of PC users view this screen at least once.

I would think in 2009, detailing how a browser works is redundant. We just need google.......erm bing! so we can get to protecting our Windows machines from the internet viruses.
